Art/Life No. 1: Notes on Yellow.
My life is…
school bus, chickadee, yield sign, Big Bird, squash, pencil, golden retriever, lemon, Police Line Do Not Cross tape, pasta, sunshine, a certain rose of Texas, omelet, butter, banana, taxicab, daffodil, gouda cheese, legal pad, Old Yeller, pee, Pac Man, goldfinches, custard, Spongebob, that river in China, mustard, “Support Our Troops” ribbons, Mountain Dew, pollen, buttercups, and smiley faces.
And all my clothes, all the time, right down to my underwear.
Shades of yellow to be found on my body at any given moment include but are not limited to; amber, beige, buff, canary chartreuse, chiffon, cream, ecru, flax, gamboge, golden, goldenrod, green-yellow, lemon, maize, metallic gold, mustard, and/or saffron.
In any given day, I get at least three comments from people I encounter. The yellow has its effect. And as for me, and its effects on me, well, I’ve settled into it. I’ve absorbed it. I’ve accepted it. And my yellow is my one-woman battle against the rainiest, grayest June in recent memory.
“Hi, I’m Mary. I’ll be playing the part of the sun.”

Hi Mary!
This is Kate- the girl who turns up at your yoga classes and TMLMBGL shows! I took a friend of mine, who does not live in Chicago, to see TMLMBGL and she loved it! I was bummed not to see you perform, but the show was great.
I also took her to Bikram this morning, and I think she hates me now…it was her first class.
Anyway, thanks for the sunshine and I hope to bump into you again soon!

I’d love to know what the comments are. Maybe you should carry around a yellow notepad and write the comments down. Or you could have the people write in your yellow notepad. And your pen could be yellow too!
